Story of a Princess Who Defies A Custom That Brings Chaos To Her Kingdom

Welcome back to 10 min recaps. Today we will dive deep to show you an animated and adventurous com from the year 2012; Brave.

So, are you ready to listen to an enchanting tale about a betrothed princess, a witch’s curse, and the changing of fate?

Merida was a red-haired princess of a Scottish kingdom.

She lives in the castle with her father, King Fergus, mother, Elinor, and three younger brothers triplets.

She is a bit of a tomboy and dislikes the constant princess training her mother puts her through.

Every so often, she gets a day off and spends it with her horse Angus, riding through the countryside and practicing her bow skills.

When Merida reaches her age of consent, her parents announce that her hand for marriage will win by a prince from one of the three clans in their kingdom.

One evening, letters arrive at the castle that the three clans are coming to present their sons as suitors for Merida.

Merida wants nothing to do with this but finds a way out when she discovers the competition, which they must win, is an event chosen by the princess herself.

She chooses archery, and on the day of the games, she boldly announces that I will compete for my hand and win easily with three straight bulls-eyes.

Despite Merida’s protests, Elinor refuses to budge and insists that the ritual must commence out of tradition.

They argue over the matter, and Merida runs away into the forest.

While wandering in the countryside, Merida comes across the magical Will O’ the Wisps, who guides her to a small cottage.

She led to a witch in the forest who gave her a spell to use on her mother.

The spell was in the form of a small cake, which Merida takes back to her mother.

Merida hopes to change her mother’s mind, but the spell changes Elinor into a black bear.

In the past, King Fergus (Billy Connolly) had his leg bitten off by a bear (in the prologue) and has been indisposed toward them ever since.

Meanwhile, clan leaders declared war on King Fergus when they heard a bear sound.

Merida was trying to escape with his mother from all the clan members.

Merida seeks her brother's help to take Elinor out of the castle on the condition of giving her brothers desserts all year long.

Luckily, the magic spell comes with an escape clause.

Merida has two days to reverse the charm.

And if she failed, the spell became permanent after the second sunrise.

She has to remember these words: fate be changed; look inside, mend the bond torn by pride.

She and her mother spend the night in the forest.

In the morning, Merida helped her mother clench fish from the river.

This practice brings the two close.

Suddenly, Elinor becomes a real bear.

She regains her composure, but they discover what will happen if they do not break the spell.

In the forest, Merida and Elinor found wisps. Merida believes that these wisps will show them the way.

The wisps took them to a strange place, and Merida thought the wisps brought them here.

After walking a little bit far, suddenly, she falls under a throne room, which was supposedly a kingdom.

In that room, Merida found a stone picture that has a split, just like a tapestry.

The moment she touched the split stone, she saw an illusion of a black bear who broke the tapestry with an ax.

After this, she deciphers that it was all because of the spell.

In the blink of an eye, she saw the black bear Mor'du, which she noticed in the illusion.

She ran from that fierce bear who was about to kill Merida, and in that, her mother caught her up.

Merida thought the bond severed on the argument day when she tore the tapestry.

Merida said that the witch gave us the answer: Mend the bond torn by pride, which means tapestry.

The two return to the castle and sneak inside to repair it.

In the castles, all the clans were fighting with King Fergus about the marriage of Merida, but Fergus said your sons are not suitable to marry my daughter.

Because Merida and Elinor have to reach the tapestry, the only way for this is that Merida would talk to his father.

Merida entered the hall where all the clans were fighting; seeing Merida, they became quiet.

To distract her so that Elinor could make her way up to the stairs, she told them a story of a lost kingdom and how all the clans fought for each other and risked everything just for survival.

She told the clan members that our kingdom story is a powerful one.

She admits that we are fighting because of me.

From actions of Elinor, she described that I have decided to break the traditions.

My mother feels in her heart that we are free to write our own stories, follow our hearts, and find love in our own time.

She said that my dear lords give freedom to young people so they can decide for themselves who they will love.

Every clan loves her grand idea, and they will move to the cellar to celebrate.

Merida and Elinor went upstairs to mend the tapestry.

But this time, king Fergus finds them just as Elinor once again loses control of her human mind, and he gathers his men to chase the beast, thinking it has killed his wife.

Merida is locked in the tower but gets free with help from her three young brothers, who mischievously also ate some of the cake and are now baby bears.

She races to the rescue of her mother just as the army is about to close in. But the bear that took Fergus’s leg shows up, and it becomes a fight between the bear Elinor to protect her daughter, and the monstrous bear, who is an enchanted Scotsman from years gone by, also under a spell by the witch.

The frightening bear gets defeated, and the Scotsman’s soul releases into the magic world.

Merida repairs the tapestry quickly, just as the sun begins to rise, but it seems too late; her mother is still a bear.

As Merida hugs Elinor, apologizing and proclaiming her love for her mother, Elinor turns back into a human.

All are restored to their original form as the curse breaks.

After this, all agree that each clansman will have the chance to win Merida’s love.

Lastly, some say fate is something beyond our command, and destiny is not our own.

But you know that our fate lives within us. You only have to be brave enough to see it.
